Titans Together! Doom Patrol - uh, well... Go...?!

DC Entertainment has been crafting some shows for the debut of network of their own, which we now know as DC Universe. One of those shows the network is going to premiere is Titans, which, as you all know has some pretty tight ties to the Doom Patrol.

A couple weeks back Geoff Johns shared this:

And then we got some casting announcements, including

Bruno Bichir as Niles Caulder aka The Chief

April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl (presumably also Rita Farr)

Jake Michaels as Robotman

Dwain Murphy as Negative Man
. . .and to make matters even more cool, they've announced some more shows on the DC Universe service.

Those shows include: Season 3 of Young Justice (and presumably Seasons 1 & 2), Swamp Thing, and Harley Quinn. I'm not sure what else will be available, except, oh yeah -

DOOOM PATROL!!

They're using a very John Byrne-esque logo, but there's been no mention of Nudge or Grunt (or Grudge or Nunt), so hope springs eternal. . .

I've long said Doom Patrol is tailor-made for other media than comics. Now it looks like DC Universe is going to prove me right.

I'm sure we'll get more casting news soon.

UPDATE: As I was going to click "Publish," CBR broke word that Crazy Jane would be joining the team. I'm trying to track down the official press release to share.

DOOM PATROL!!

So Justice League #32 puts more than a little effort into giving us a story of the New 52 Doom Patrol. The preview offers hope or frustration. It's up to you to decide which applies to you.

Ugh. Change for change sake. I'll post some thoughts on the issue this Friday, for now, enjoy this page. Words by Geoff Johns, pencils from Doug Mahnke, inks from Keith Champagne, colors from Andrew Dalhouse with Nick J. Napolitano on letters.

You can catch more of the preview over at my other internets home on CBR.

Justice League #27 Review

So I read that Justice League book and reviewed it for CBR.

"Forever Doomed" is somewhat predictable with regards to the appearance of the Doom Patrol and the motions Cyborg goes through, but "Justice League" #27 is nowhere near boring. This comic book serves very well as "Doom Patrol" #0 or even "Cyborg" #0 (maybe now Vic Stone will be able to find his way to a solo series) or a companion piece to "Forever Evil," but lacks the Justice League for which this comic is branded. All the same, this is a fun, adventure-filled, character-driven study certain to please fans of Detroit's greatest hero or DC's strangest team of misfits. As a fan of both, and a resident of metro-Detroit, I found a lot to like in this comic. No, it isn't the world's greatest comic book, but it is a damn fine read filled with bombastic fun and plenty of nods and winks for longtime DC readers.

Doom Patrol? Check. Cyborg? Check. Sweet Ivan Reis art? Check. Sweet Rod Reis colors? Check. Unnecessary death and destruction? Check. Looks like the DP is coming back to the DCU. Where they go from here and how they come back from this, I don't know, but I'm hoping it's good.

Meanwhile, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one, Patrollers!

Elasti-Girl Friday 13

Yesterday, or maybe two days ago, during the Blackest Night hubbub, I mentioned that Rita was cloned.

Here's the page with the reveal from the 36th issue of the current volume of Teen Titans, written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Tony Daniel.

This was during the height of One Year Later, DC's attempt to provide magic jumping on points for readers to start picking up titles. It worked well for some titles, not so much for others.

Teen Titans gave us a new Doom Patrol, with Mal Duncan, now known as Vox, and Bumblebee, who happens to be stuck at her smaller size.

Truly I hope Giffen makes Chief less of a jerk. More from this issue soon.
