Episode 90: April, You Fool, Check Out That Keen Teen Scene! OR Mike Allred Solo!

No foolin'!
Mike, Paul, Rifty, and WilFreD are back at it again! So we need a post to match, right?

Here's the Podbean link and text.

We're BACK! A bit late than usual, but it's due to shenanigans. No time to explain - LET'S GET PATROLLING!

Down on Derington Way - 6:47
Doom Clock - 12:13
SURPRISE! New segment! GASP! What's it all about?? You'll have to tune in to find out!!
Doomsplaining - 21:19 - Time for something completely different, as we take a look at a story featuring the Doom Patrol and the Teen Titans, from issue 7 of 'Solo', by Mike Allred!
Mailbag O Doom - 36:37 - super short condensed version of the mailbag this week, as there wasn't a QOTW. I'm sure you'll survive.

Here's the imagery for Solo #7

Let's start with the cover.

And the interiors.

No one in comics today does groovy like Mike Allred. Even if by "today" I mean 2005.

Sssshhh!

All the grooviness.

It's CLANKING TIME!

Bunny. Slippers.

The Chief will teach you music appreciation!

Thus ends the party.

Solo #7 includes an Hourman story, a Metal Men pin-up, a Batman (1966ish) adventure, and a story about the Comic Book Clubhouse. The end of the issue comes together in a wonderful celebration of all things Allred, including a shot of Hawkman leading the charge into the adult coloring book fad.

New Segment
I've teased it here, but the way things have timed out (read: the busy-ness that finds me), I haven't been able to give it the time yet, but we'll get there. I call it ReByrne.

Derington Way.
It's cancelled.
It's not.

It's on hiatus.
It's back.
Long story short: there will be a significant wait between Doom Patrol (v6) #6 and Doom Patrol (v6) #7.

Doom Patrol #6 is slated for 19 April. According to the reports rolling out of WonderCon, Doom Patrol #7 will be out sometime in July. Here's hoping.

In the interim, we'll make sure to throw a few posts up here.

For now, enjoy this shot from the WonderCon panel of Gerard Way sporting the Doom Patrollers uniform.

Until next time, my friends, here's the Question of the Week.
What's your favorite Disney movie?

October Reviews

A couple months back, I posted the solicits for October's comics, highlighting the Young Animal imprint and also calling out a few other DC Comics that caught my eye. I promised reviews either at Tales of My Greatest Strange Adventures or on Comicosity. I did a bit of both. Check them out and let me know what you think.

As for Doom Patrol (v6) #2, I'll share my thoughts (as well as a Doug's Dig) here, most likely prior to Paul and Mike releasing the next Waiting for Doom podcast.

The standard issue cover for Doom Patrol (v6) #2.

The Mike and Laura Allred variant for Doom Patrol (v6) #2. From ComicBook.com

Until then, be sure to check out the preview of Doom Patrol #2 on Nerdist.

VARIANTS!

The fine folks over at ComicBook.com have an exclusive reveal of all of the variant covers for the Young Animal releases in October. Check out the full article here.

As for the Doom Patrol precisely, here's the variant, courtesy of Mike Allred.

I'm not a big variant guy, unless it's an action figure cover by John Tyler Christopher, but these Doom Patrol (and Young Animal on a larger scale) variants are all topnotch.
