Yes, yes, insert 'waiting for Waiting For Doom' joke here.
Anyway - we're back, and we're joined by podcaster extraordinaire, Ryan Daly!
You can find his various shows over on the Fire and
Water Network. Without further ado - let's get patrolling!Down on Derington Way - 9:51Doom Clock - 15:02Doomsplaining - 18:04 - This week we take a look at a two-part
story from the Brave and the Bold series of 2010, by J. Michael Straczynski and
Jesus Saiz. It not only features the Doom Patrol, but also the Legion of
Super-Heroes, the Inferior Five and the Legion of Substitute Heroes!Mailbag O Doom - 59:55 - We read your responses to the
question, "Who or what is the worst fictional A.I.?".
Let's get on with the images, shall we?
|
The cover for The Brave and the Bold #34. Wonderful stuff. |
|
Black holes. Bah. |
|
It's not even the same shade of pink! |
|
Saiz at his best, with some superfine Tom Chu colors. |
|
Farr and Away. |
|
The team-up absolutely no one wanted and the beauty of team-up titles in action. |
|
That's gonna irritate Chief a bit. |
|
The grand meeting of the two greatest super-teams. . .er, uh. . .what? |
|
For the laughs. |
|
Night Girl's not much for having fun. |
|
Air valves. |
|
Saiz proving JLI worthy. Or better. |
|
"Now where do we go? What do we do? Who will give us a home?" |
Rebirth anyone? Rebirth: Inferior Five with Ambush Bug backups? DC, you are leaving money on the counter. And the Marvel is taking it.
Here's Doug's Dig for the B&B extravaganza.
|
Collaboration. That's what comics is all about, and it shines through right here: Straczynski's words, Saiz's art, Chu's colors, and Rob Leigh's letters. Check out the static in Robotman's word balloon. |
And a quick stop by Derington Way en route.
|
A sketch Nick Derington transformed into Thanksgiving wishes. |
|
A peek into Casey's future from Nick Derington's Twitter. |
And one more bit, here's the solicit and cover the fellas mentioned for Doom Patrol (Volume 6) #6.
|
DPv6 #6, nicked from MultiversityComics.com. I think the "skinniness" of Flex's leg is limited by the space available. In other words, it's looks OK to me. |
Our first arc concludes! The Doom Patrol is back together, and their mission to take out the Vectra brings them in contact with another old friend. Secrets will be uncovered, blows will be struck and, whether they win or lose, Casey Brinke’s existence will be altered forever. And yours just might be, too!
According to DCComics.com, this issue is due out March 29, 2017. That bit prompted me to check the scheduled release dates for the issues between now and then, so here you go:
#4 hits the racks 1/11
#1 Director's Cut is due 1/18 (which gives us 2 weeks of Doom Patrol-y goodness two weeks in a row! 2016 never did that, already making 2017 a better year, right?)
#5 is due February 8
An extra-bonus image (I included the source info, so you can track down the Instagrammer, if that's your thing):

And let's end it the way we always do: QUESTION OF THE WEEK/MONTH/WHATEVER:
What cool thing is as old as you are?
Love your work, Doug, as ever - thank you
ReplyDeleteThank YOU!
DeleteThanks Doug! Great stuff as always. Some Behind The Scenes stuff for the fans: this Ep was delayed a week initially due to Paul having connection issues. Then the night we recorded, *my* connection issues caused us to have about a dozen drop outs during recording. Guess how much fun I had editing THAT one gang?? LOL. Still, it turned out pretty good in the end!
ReplyDeleteThanks again to Ryan for being our guest - a true Man Of The People, Comics Lover, and blessed with the patience of a saint (sorry again for all the dropouts, Ryan!) Somethibg I mentioned to him when we started was how glad I was that he was covering #35, because reading that one, I got a slight headache heheheh.
Bye for now, gang - thanks as always for listening, and stay tuned both here on MGA80 and on the air for more Waiting For Doom!
Mike
30:35 "...one of those super-nerds from the Legion of Super-Bloggers could probably tell us when this takes place based on their costumes and hairstyles..."

PB with the knowledge.
DeleteGreat image choices Doug! Really appreciate you sharing them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Darrin! I got a BIG assist from Mr. Hix.
DeleteMy answer to the question of the episode: Pong. I'm as old as Pong. Or Pong is as old as me. And I don't mean beer pong. I mean the grandaddy of all video games: PONG.
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot about the question! Reed Richards' and Sue Storm's marriage is as old as I am. Their wedding went on sale the week I was born.
ReplyDeleteTV shows that premiered the same year I was born include Get Smart, Hogan's Heroes, I Dream of Jeannie, and The Wild Wild West, all of which are favorites of mine :-)
