Episode 88: Snakes On A (Dimensional) Plane OR Can We Talk About Teeth-Nipples?

It's time for some more Doom Patrol goodness. Let's start with the Podbean description:
Just as one era ends for the Doom Patrol, another begins, raising several questions, such as one asked by a famous archaeologist: "Snakes....Why did it have to be snakes??"

Down on Derington Way - 7:12
Doom Clock - 9:57
Doomsplaining - 14:03 - It's the start of a new era, as we dive into the chaos of issues 64 and 65 of volume 2, beginning Rachel Pollack's run on the series!
Mailbag O Doom - 49:21 - We read your responses to the question, "Which fictional character would you add to the Doom Patrol roster?"
So let's get to the imagery. Here's the cover for Doom Patrol (volume 2) #64
Brian Bolland checks in for the first cover of Rachel Pollack's Doom Patrol

Thus begins an era.

Cliff returns!

Dorothy assembles the Patrol!

Teeth. Nipples.

Not a great day for young Dorothy Spinner.

Really the Doom Patrol at this point is right here.

Dorothy's craptastic day continues.

Cliff returns for real!

Even as just a head, Niles Caulder is nothing but trouble.

The cover to Doom Patrol (v2) #65

And the innards of #65.
That's a pretty sad Mount Rushmore cosplay, Chief.

Dorothy means business.

Cliff just isn't sure what to make of it all.

United Snakes of America

Dorothy learns if you can dream it, you can do it.

Pig roast fail.

Time for justice? Or just weirdness?

Down on Derington Way
Mike and Paul had a little bit on Derington Way this week, as we're all nearly giddy with anticipation of getting a new issue of Doom Patrol on 22 March. That said, it's been a rather thin week or so for news from either Gerard Way or Nick Derington, but "thin" does not mean "non-existent."

As so many artists do, Gerard Way chose to share some insight into his writing process, including an overview of his tools.
THE Notebook!

From March 16. Tom Fowler tweeted this out. Nice!
And what would this section be without a Derington-direct tweet?
??? indeed.
As requested by the gents, here is the link for Ross Pearsall's Super-Team Family site.

Jay Bandoy provided some of the images to WilFreD (thanks for the goose, Jay!). If you've somehow missed this in your life to this point, you need to fix that. Now. Here. Your first one is free.
This just might be the cover mentioned in the Mailbag.
I'll even throw in a cover of Thing and Robotman, for Steve Lacey of the Fantasicast.

Question of the Week
What is your favo(u)rite fictional vehicle?

Be good to one another, folks!

  1. I was nano unsure as to what Mike saw as odd about these issues, until he explained. To me they were such a Morrison tribute act it was embarrassing. Beings with odd heads? Check. 'Random garbage' dialogue? Check. I checked out of the book after the first issue and never went back.

The only bit that made me smile was Doc Magnus being so entranced in wacky superherodom that he automatically assumes Dorothy's manifestations are tied to the full moon rather than something more down to earth.

Pollack should have gone somewhere totally new

Bolland's cover is amazingly good, I especially like how Doc Magnus is drawn in Andru and Esposito style.

    Boys, a scrivener was a clerk :)

    Top notes as ever, Doug!

  3. I've never made it thru the Pollack run. We're all in this together, friends.
