Back on Track? Maybe. . .

As most of y'all know, I'm a reviewer for CBR. As fate would have it, I was reading Justice League of America's Vibe #5 for a potential review when I noticed something. Something Doomy.

It's right here.

Look closely. See?

Yes, my friends, Scissorman. Or at least "RMAN" labeled on a tube containing a red and black character with scissor-like hands. Sure, it's singular, but where there's one. . .

Now I've been a fan of the Justice League in Detroit since I bought Justice League of America Annual #2 off the comic rack at the neighborhood convenience store way back in 1984. Vibe and Gypsy are characters I have faith in and enjoy reading, but to see a connection - albeit slight - to the DP in this title, well, Sterling Gates and crew have given me yet another reason to stay plugged in to one of DC's more fun series.

I asked Gates about the appearance out on Twitter and got this:

Thanks Geoff Johns for the nudge in the right direction! Isn't it time to get the DP back on the publishing schedule though?

  1. I'd just as soon wait until this shiny new permanent version of the DC universe inevitably blows over. We may not have long to wait; without an actual DP to match the bizarre and surreal end of the global threat spectrum, Orquith oughta be transmuting us all in a matter of days.

If the DP did come back as things have been for the last two years, we'd have the new Cliff Steele (and Madame Rouge) from "My Greatest Adventure", Danny from "Teen Titans", Niles Caulder referenced in "Ravagers" and similar allusions to the Men From N.O.W.H.E.R.E. and the Ant Farm. And, like Beast Boy, none of them are really the characters for whom they were named. Close down NU52 and I'm there like a shot. Until then, bringing back the Doom Patrol in the current climate at DC would be like buying your kid a dog just so you could shoot it in front of them.

  3. Great Easter Egg find! Now if we could get the Brotherhood of Dada...

Sterling Gates is writing the upcoming Killer Frost one-shot, so that's another book I'm looking forward too!
