Part of this I assume is do the fact that Giffen has made this compelling stuff, but I also credit the fact that in the past year I have read the entire run of the pre-Giant Size #1 X-Men. So far this Doom Patrol strikes me as the overtly dysfunctional version of that crew. I know the comparisons between the X-Men and the Patrol are well documented, but between the various mental states of the heroes and the manipulations of the Chief, thats the strong vibe I get.

The resolution was somewhat hasty, but Giffen did say he wanted to do shorter stories. Besides, like you say "this expands the universe around Caulder's strikeforce," so I am sure we will see the Anamoly (or whatever he wants to call himself) regularly.

I strongly agree with you about the little asides adding a lot of depth. Another title I am reminded of is volume 2 of Alpha Flight, which came out during the Heroes Reborn era. That title had an almost X-Files-ish feel with Department H as the big mysterious, manipulative overlords and the heroes being pushed and pulled in various directions. Those little insights that we get here really give you a feel for the team, especially for us n00bs.

I wonder if we will see Mal any time soon?

Bring on Blackest Night!Lukehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07352646370918575626noreply@blogger.com
